Recent Sewing Acquisitions

I thought you all might like to see some sewing items I inherited when my Gr. Grandma passed away this August.

The first took me a few seconds to figure out what it was:

It's a pin cushion :)  If you hold it with the open part facing towards you it kinda looks like a microphone.

The second we found up in the attic.  When I found out it was up there, I asked my uncle if I could Please have it!! If no one else does.  He said I should just take it because no one else would want it.  So, I got a dress form!!!

I haven't used it yet.  I'm making a dress right now, and when I get back to working on it I'm going to use it.

Mermaid Costumes

Some of you may remember This post on Rebecca's Blog about the day we made mermaid costumes for the Peter Pan play. Well, the girls took them home and decorated them. And we finally got pictures of the full costumes. I thought they turned out pretty well :) We are missing one of the mermaids, she also played Nana the nursemaid dog, and she did bows in her dog costume, but you can see her in the bottom picture, she is wearing gold. We voted for a more modest version, Rebecca came up with the drape idea for the top. I was able to find material is gorgeous sunset colors. It was such fun!

Sarah's dress

I have recently have a itch to sew little people clothes. So, I made Sarah Beth this dress. I have gotten the pattern on sale, it is adorable!


Of course I forgot to take pictures.... I always do, this is all we had...














But thankfully Rachel had taken some pictures while we were playing with the children at the gym. And she graciously sent some to me.

Recent projects

So,..
as most of you know, Rebecca, Stephanie, and I recently moved into an apartment of our own. So, most of my sewing projects have been domestic oriented. A.k.a. curtains and pillows :)
Here are the curtains I made :)





Bathrooms curtain. I LOVE these! The wall is actually a French blue color, I'm not sure why it looks white.....

This is our front door. Also a polka dot curtain :) We like polka dots :)










And this hangs in our kitchen. The idea turned out cute but the colors aren't exactly right. There is a dowel sewn in the bottom. That's how the curtain "opens"

And finally a still-in-progress project. We can't decide exactly how we want these to hang. They are in Steph and my room...

Latest Project

So, I've been very busy the last few weeks. Moving, working, school, and before all that I made this:

The homeschool group had a Civil War Day and I promised Joe a uniform. I didn't think that it would take me so long to finish it!! As it was his pants were safety pinned shut and his pants weren't hemmed, but oh well... I'd just have to let them out and re-hem in a few months.... I wasn't able to go to Civil War Day, I had to work. But it sounds like everyone had fun, here are a few more pictures, just for the fun of it.

Susie sewed yellow twill tape on the side of Luke's pants so he would have "army" pants.

I made this dress for Sarah earlier this year. It's from Mrs. Chancey's Girl's Regency Dress Pattern. I love the expression on her face in these pictures.

eeek!!!!

I just realized that I have 20 days until Homeschool Civil War Day. That means I have 20 days to make Joe's Uniform and Lydia's dress. Plus school starts next week!!!! Wonder what I'll be doing tomorrow??

Dress Pictures!!!

So, when we decided to go to NJ for Jenny's wedding, I didn't have anything to wear. So, yes... I made a dress, in less than a week. I finished hemming and put the ribbon on during the car trip. I totally forgot to take pictures of me in the dress. This is the closest we got.

So I pulled it out of the closet today to take pictures. Sorry it's wrinkled. I'm too lazy to iron it just to take the pictures. Besides it'd just get wrinkled when I put it away...

I thought it turned out really well.

Material!

After waiting, entirely too long! I finally got to go to JoAnn Fabric's and buy material!!! I'm going to finally get around to sewing again!!!
Here are pictures of the material I got.

This is a pink flowered material. It was on clearance for $2 a yard! I LOVE clearance!!
The Home School group is doing a Civil War day this fall. So I will probably use this pattern with brown accents and a brown sash. The 2nd picture is a a better idea of what color the material really is..

Except we are making her jacket out of this brown material.

This material I bought to reproduce a shirt I saw at Maurice's. I will be putting sleeves on my shirt and I am going to make it in a regency dress instead. The shirt I saw had white underneath, but I liked the green better :) The white material was $13 a yard, but it was 50% off. But! When they rang it up it was only $2.49 a yard!!!!!! YAY!!!!!

I love shopping for material!!!! And sewing!!

Now, I just need a new sewing machine... :{

2 of my recent projects

I finally finished Sarah Beth's regency dress. So, my "kids" both wore their Katie-made clothes on Sunday. And the weather was really nice so we got some great pictures!!
I made Sarah's dress using Mrs. Chancey's Regency Dress and Pinafores patterns. Aren't they just darling! I can't wait to make more :)

Luke's pants and vest were made using this this Burda suit pattern. I was making him a suit coat as well, but, the sleeves managed to disapear. We've searched the whole house and they are no where to be found. I didn't have a stitch of fabric left, so all he gets for now is pants and vest. I have material for one more vest, which I will get around to sooner or later.

So, those are my recent children's projects. I'm hoping to finally finish the quilt I've been working on forever... I'll post pictures when I do!

For now, I'm off to the concerto competition *gulp!!*

The Sewing Craze

Rebecca, Susie, and I found this beautiful green fabric in a dollar a yard bin. We all loved it, the result, we bought the whole bolt of material. Rebecca made her dress and Susie's. I made mine.



I used Mrs. Chancey's Romantic Dress Pattern I've used the pattern before, but this dress was quite a challenge. I ended up making 2 bodices since the neckline on the first one was goofy and the shoulder seams we weird and uncomfortable. I don't know what I did different to the 2nd, but as you can see, it worked. :)

concert dress

After 4 years I no longer fit in my concert dress. The really nice one I wear to every concert I play in..... hey, a girls allowed to grow...
Anyway I looked and looked for a modest affordable black dress.... it's impossible.... I found a really pretty black bridesmaid dress, it was a little low, but it was sleeveless and REALLY expensive. So I resorted to making my own. I used Butterick 4827 and a 50% coupon at JoAnn's and here is the result. What do you think?

You'll have to please excuse my face. I'm not used to playing for 2 hours, especially when one of those two hours was straight Franke. *faints from exhaustion* I swear my arm was going to fall off....
But I finished the dress and we had our first offical Symphony concert, personally I think it went really well no matter what the rest of the kids thought.
O.k. well, there is still hairspray that I am dying to get off of my hair, so off I go...
