"Roger Hamley makes me swoon :)"

Oh brother!!! Rog is a complete dork!!! He's so blah, and wears disgusting pants, and kisses Cynthia!

You've got to be kidding...

Erica said...

Oh ba-rother!!!! There is no way...I am NEVER going to like that old Rog.

And it's not 'cause I'm young and immature either...he just doesn't agree with my personality.

I mean, can you see me marrying somone like Rog? Never. No way. Na-huh. Borrrrriiinnnngggg!!! Gimme some excitment in personality!

Now...Darcy on the other hand. And see, he had a weakness too, but he learned and overcame it. Just like Rog! And I like Darcy.

Just ask your little sister. It's an age-old argument. She likes Rog too. Ick.

Okay, I'm done ranting. That's quite enough, don't you think? "My apologies for taking up so much of your time. My best wishes for your health and happiness." (What a gentleman!)

Sisters are great for arguments over heroes, wouldn't you agree? I love you!

Katie said...

Thought I should post this. This was my reply to Erica's first comment. I put this on her blog.

Begging your pardon but Roger is not a dork! He made a mistake with Cynthia. But he overcame it. And saw what God had for him instead. Youll understand when you are older.

Now, in response to the last comment..
You're right, maybe Roger's personality doesn't agree with your personality although I don't think any of us should decide what kind of personality we want. I mean well you understand, cause well we don't have a choice.

Darcy is nice too. I mean yes he does overcome, he overcomes his pride, which isn't easy, but then again. Roger is wonderful. I gotta watch that movie again so that I can give you specifics... but anywho I know about he age-old agrument. That's kinda why I keep responding. And sisters are great for arguments, cause they still love you!

BTW, what do you think of Thornton and Harmon?

Erica said...

Harmon? Blech. Ultra-blech. Audrey loves him. Crazy.

Thornton? oh...wow. He's awesome. Dark, tall, efficient, handsome. (Lyds says his nose it too big, but she doesn't know what she's talking about)

Am I too opinionated? I probably shouldn't ask...

:)

DaveWick said...

You guys are absolutely hilarious!!! :D

An Old Fashioned Girl said...

I really shouldn't get involved in this... I'm libel to pull SOMEONES nose.

I'm going to state my opinion and then be done with it in an ordely maner.

1. Roger is amazing. Yes he's human, but aren't we all, everyone makes mistakes.

2. Darcy is nice (duh, he's Darcy) but a little on the serious side for me.

3. Thorton yells too much and has a big nose.

4. Harmon? Don't get me started on him. He's just my fav. historical novel guy ever. My future Mr. Right could take lessons from him.

There you go, I can see Erica rolling her eyes and gasping at this very moment.

Lyds

I'd like to here Erica on Jim Craig, or is he not in this categoty? What about Elenor's guy from S&S, his name escapes me...

"Thornton? oh...wow. He's awesome. Dark, tall, efficient, handsome. (Lyds says his nose it too big, but she doesn't know what she's talking about)"

Very, Very, true....let me add to the list with kind, strong, he overcomes his pride and narrow mind, truthful ("She's right. I was angry--I have a temper"), and loyal to his mother (even though she's such a battle-axe)
AM-A-ZING.

Post Script: I like Harmon too...but not near so much :-)

Erica said...

You mean Edward Farrars? YICK!!! Talk about hair that goes "swoop". He's definitely of the bland type.

Jim Craig?

;)

At least Thornton has a desire to actually DO something in life, besides sitting around falling in love with the wrong girls!

Audrey and I were talking about OMF on the way to piano lessons...I was right, she loves Harmon.

Lydia, you're crazy. I don't even know why we're friends. ;) I'm going to absolutely GROAN at your wedding. And yes, I was rolling my eyes and gasping at your comment.

Mac is wise...what else is new? (Although I could tell some stories...cousins from way back?)

Erica said...

On another note...you should definitely try skiing, Katie! I loved it, but then when I went snowboarding. Wow! That was even better.

And your hair is beautiful!!

I like the name Jason too. :)

Katie said...

poor David, do you even know what we are talking about??? We can rectify that!! We own all the movies ;)

umm... girls.. you aren't honestly judging the characters but the way the actors look!!!!

The guy how plays Thornton has a big nose, that doesn't mean Mrs. Gaskell's image of Thornton involved a big nose. And Edward Ferris (whatever his real name is) had a bad hair dresser. Don't judge the character by the actor.

Jim is wonderful!!

Erica,
Yes you are too opinionated, I must have left the name Jason there from when I copied it. It's a nice name but I prefer Nathan or Johnathon. My hair is annoying, especially my bangs. But thank you anyway.

I love you all!!!
This is fun!!! The most comments ever!

Lady Dvora said...

We should try and set a record for most comments ever!!
Alright let me get my thoughts...

1. I like Roger (can you tell why Aud and I are friends?) because he's human and he's from the country. I'm not j/k. It's one of the reasons i like him.

2.Darcy, I like him in the book, i don't care very much for either of the movie portrayls, so that's all I'll say.

3. Jim. Hmm I think I like him for the same reasons I like Roger.

4. Harmon -how do I say this?? I don't agree with every decision the guy makes, but i really think that the scheme they come up with for Bella is a good thing for her,and I like him :)

5.Thorton, I feel sorry for him after the proposel, and when all his troubles are happening and when he's nice to Higgins, but before that I don't like him AT ALL!

6. Ed Ferrers, I had to play the guy but personally I like Colonel Brando.

Ok Gil Blythe? (from the book preferablly)

Anonymous said...

my vote for nice guys from books are... drumroll...

Erica said...

Ya, Joe, definitely Fezzik... ;)

I was judging character, not looks. (For the most part)

Brandon? He talks like a fish. "What can I do?" *rolls eyes*

Gil? Well, he's cool. I like Gil. (I'm a bit like Anne...but not MUCH.) Handsome, gentlemently...and FUN!

Okay, this is really, really bad. I've made the most comments here...yikes.

DaveWick said...

Amazingly, Katie, I have stayed awake through enough of them movies to recognize some of the names. I guess when you characterize yourself as a "definite romantic" I shouldn't be surprised. I've always heard I was more of the Darcy type myself, and from the limited exposure I've had to his character I tend to agree. However, I never have heard any similar discussion about the romantic qualities of the ladies in these pieces of literature, and frankly I never cared to, and certainly do not now as my romantic cup has been quite overflowed by my dear wife, who happens to be an actual person.

Lady Dvora said...

*Laughs at Dave..or with him or whatever*
Should we discuss which of the girls we like best and why next, my fellow romantics?

Katie said...

Apparently this is the record for most comments ever. I didn't go looking and I am happy to be corrected but I believe it is...

Dave,
Try these :)

http://quizfarm.com/test.php?q_id=57916
http://www.quizilla.com/users/LollieBritt/quizzes/Which%20Jane%20Austen%20Hero%20Are%20You
and if I was married, or as you put it had may romantic cup overflowing. I probably wouldn't be having this conversation...
Have you seen Wives and Daughters, North and South, and Our Mutual Friend? I'm think you've seen the rest of them.

Fezzik?? Joe?!.... I love u anyway.

Darcy, I agree with Debbie, he's better in the book.

I have yet to form an opinion of Thornton, I'm waiting to read the book, which Susie currently has...

Gil,
He's great!

Rebecca said this morning that I like the guys that are nice from the beginning. And that's probably true. I like the ones that know what is right and are nice from the start. They can make mistakes and all. I mean they are human. But they realize they have strayed and come home. :)

Katie said...

Debbie!

I'm all for it! Although it probably wouldn't be the same.. It would be fun.

An Old Fashioned Girl said...

21 comments, amazing!
Erica I don't think you could judge on weather or not we should be friends by our opinion on guys. Especially guys that if they had lived in the first place would be long dead by now.
I rember once Mom asked me if you and I ever argued about anything. We're such great friends you know, and so nice to eachother. I told her that I thought Thorton had a big nose and you STRONLY disagreed with me.She gave me the "where did I get this child look" and said "that's you're biggest aurgument?????" I guess by the number of comments we're not the only people with opinions on the subject...

Gil is wonderful. Enough said. Anyone that longsuffering is amazing.

Ed Farris: Besides having one of the best proposal lines ever, he's not that great. Just a nice guy. So guess what ERICA AND I AGREE!!! *faint*
Lyds

P.S. Why is Fezzik on Joe's list???

Kristi said...

Oh my...
I don't want to rehash what everyone else has been talking about (enjoyable as it has been to read!) but there was one comment - maybe from Katie? - that struck me so I will comment on that.

Personality. At least twice in my single years I got a word from the Lord telling me that I should not put my hope or aspiration in personality. I wasn't sure what that meant at the time, but in hindsight, a lot of times that is what the world sets as a standard for compatibility. But there's something deeper that the Lord has in mind beyond just getting along, enjoying lots of the same things, etc.
I believe that a husband and wife should be best friends,I'm not saying they shouldn't, but there should be a oneness in the spirit rather than just the soul.

God definitely knows who and what we need, and gives the very best to those who leave the choice with Him.

So there's two cents from me. Personality is important, but not THAT important!

David says I am making this post all serious. Sorry... the mention of personality just got me thinking.

Rebecca said...

ya'll are nuts.

these guys aren't real.... wasn't sure if you all knew that or not.

I'm not the Darcy type. But then, I'm not the Elizabeth Bennett type either.

I'm nice and boring.

my favorite literary hero??? hmmmm.... Jean ValJean. But, he's not the "fall-in-love with" type of person.

I do like Roger Hamley. I must admit. Nicholas Nickleby is another fav. Jim Craig. Now if I said Willie, too you all might think that Luke had hacked into my blog account....

lol!!! ok....

This is a waste of time. Tell you what. When I get married... I'll write a book about my husband. And then, HE'LL by my favorite literery hero.

DaveWick said...

Quizfarm result: Mr. Darcy

Quizilla result: Edward Ferrars - although I would have to say that at least half of the questions did not have a multiple choice answer that really fit me, I just had to put something in whether or not it really made sense.

Oh and I have heard a few strains of "Wives and Daughters" from the TV upstairs, either for a short time when coming home from playing basketball or faintly from the haven of our basement. Never even heard of the other two, and I don't count myself any better off for knowing they exist (as Kristi mutters "oh David David David David" in the background).

I thought Rebecca put it quite nicely: "these guys aren't real.... wasn't sure if you all knew that or not." I think I would much prefer to read Rebecca's book - as those who know me well know, I'm not a fan of fiction.

Kristi said...

ps
i like mr. wickboldt, mr. darcy and mr. knightley, by the way.

Lady Dvora said...

"She preferred imaginary heroes to real ones, for when she tired of the former she simply locked them away in the kitchen cupboard"

Guesses as to what I'm quoting?? I'll bet Emmie knows..

Rebecca said...

"Never even heard of the other two, and I don't count myself any better off for knowing they exist (as Kristi mutters "oh David David David David" in the background)."

I'm with Kristi there....

these books aren't just "fiction" they're classics. Great classics. Works of art, if you wanna know the truth.
I'm better off for knowing they exist.

Erica said...

ohmygoodness, I forgot about Knightley! Should I be apologizing?

Now him! He was like perfect. Maybe even a little too perfect.

Ya, they aren't real, but Deb's quote was great. And I'm not old and boring and married. (NOT that those three are all synonyms...;)

"ERICA AND I AGREE!!! *faint*" No way! I love you tons!!!

David's right, Kristi. You made that post all serious. A dose of reality in the middle of all this fantasy? How dare you!

Katie said...

I'm with Kristi and Rebecca.

Knightly is too perfect. Guys don't come that way. Right?

O.k. now *puts on mod cap* don't take anything seriously I mean it is fiction and we are joking *takes mod cap off*

Rebecca I will happily read your book. And I think Willie is awesome as well!!!

An Old Fashioned Girl said...

Did someone mention knightley? *swon* Yes he's perfect, but when you're Emma (or like her, as Quizfarm tells me) you need a perfect guy. So ERica and I agree again. Sortof.

I'm sure when we're all married we won't talk like this anymore. But we can enjoy it while we're young, impulsive and romantic. Besides, you have to have SOMEONE to model you dreams after.

Lyds

P.S. I'll read Becca's book!

Erica said...

Oh, Willie? I'd like him except that those movies are so disgustingly terrible...it taints every single actor/actress. Don't even get me started...

You know who I absolutely love? Albert on Victoria and Albert! At least he had a better stylist than Edward Farrars! What a nice guy! (And what great hair!)

Okay, here's a hoot. How about Prince Henry?? He's the one that started the whole "swoop" thing with hair. At least Debbie knows what I'm talking about! Don't you Deb?

Prince Henry is just about my worst hero in a movie ever. What a total loser!

I bet Lyds likes him...wouldn't be surprised a bit.

Lady Dvora said...

Yes Erice I do and I'm laughing!! Let me hasten to assure everyone we are NOT refering to the present Prince Henry :)
Yeah sure I like Albert, I don't know anyone who doesn't..

An Old Fashioned Girl said...

I do NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! His hair,ugh.

Prince Albert is amazing. Did ou know the actor who plays him is Colin Firth's brother?

Anonymous said...

Well, nobody has said it yet so I'm going to make sure it gets in this conversation:

"Prince Henry's hair goes swoop!"
Fellow Woodwarths, just humor me with a smile even though I know you have all heard that prince henry's hair goes swoop millions of times before..

oooh...Gilbert would be right up there with Jim Craig and Thornton, except for that fact that his name is....Gilbert. How can you love a guy whose name is Gilbert??? GILBERT???
Now I know what you are all thinking: "Once she falls in love, she won't care WHAT his name is" And yes, this might be true...BUT while I am still picking over fictional characters I'm aloud to stick out my tongue at the name. :)
I loved your quote Lady Dvora! It really made me smile!

Lady Dvora said...

Well, Merry maybe that's why Anne calls him Gil.
Laurie's hair goes SWOOP but I like him.
A book character who I like, his name is ARICHBALD! But you just call him Archie and everythings fine.

Come on no guess about my quote? It's about some one everyone knows VERY well :)
I love this conversation, I can almost imagine I'm back with the Woodwarths

DaveWick said...

Well Lady D, I would include the previous and following phrases in your quote; "For with Jo, brain developed earlier than heart"... ..."and the latter were less manageable."

Somehow this explains the whole context of the postings on this thread and in turn helps me to understand the romantic musings of you young ladies a bit more...

Rebecca said...

well, Dave I'm glad you FINALLY caught on....

Gilbert is wonderful. Less perfect than Knightley and some of the other heroes we've been talking about.

Prince Albert was a REAL PERSON!! which is a totally different catergory.

Girls, the guy you end up marrying will probably have an awful name, and hair you hate. But, you'll love him anyway. I'm sure of it.

Anonymous said...

I like Archie...different, but it doesn't sound like...like...like sour cheese curds. 'Gilbert' sounds like the just the sort of word to mean 'rotton cheese curds that need to be thrown out'
"Honey would get rid of the gilbert in the fridge??"

Erica said...

"Girls, the guy you end up marrying will probably have an awful name, and hair you hate. But, you'll love him anyway. I'm sure of it."

Oh, Becca, don't say that! That's just terrible! If he doesn't have a good name and good hair--he can just forget it. I mean, I don't want to go around with an ugly-looking ugly-sounding guy!

And "Gil" is almost as bad as "Gilbert."

What about...Freckles? I know Debbie's gonna comnent, I just know it. Or is this discussion only on movie heroes?

But you know who's the best of the best, over every other fictional guy ever written or acted?

Nathaniel Eaten.

'Nuff said.

Rebecca said...

nathaniel eaton... ahhhh.... yes. he's really quite nice. Sort of the Darcy type I think. Mean and nasty at first....

so, Erica you like guys that are rude. ok.

I would like to resume this conversation at your wedding.

Lady Dvora said...

Nathanial Eaton??? I've never heard of him. Don't anybody faint on me.
You're right Dave that is the whole quote. I had to tell my sisters who it was :)YEah I thougth the quote fit.
Well, I won't be throwing anything called "Gil/Gilbert" anytime soon, but now I don't think I'll be able to throw anything out of my fridge without thinking of him :)

(notice Erica I haven't commented on Freckles, I'll leave that to other admirers)

Katie said...

O.k I give up! I can't figure out who Prince Henry is.

And Deb, Nathaniel Eaton is from The Witch of Blackbird Pond.

I agree with Rebecca about Gilbert, I actually kinda like the name.

And Prince Albert can't be discussed. Unless we are suddenly talking actors not characters, and I thought we decided against that.

Archie is a nice guy. I'm not to fond of Laurie, but then again, I'm not really a Jo type. Mr. Brooke is more my type, and no wise-cracks!

What about Daniel and Joel from The Bronze Bow?

I'm chuckling thinking that if even some of us were married, this conversation wouldn't be going this way...

Anonymous said...

Lady Dvora said...

Dad! you posted!! He's gone from being a lurker to a poster everyone :)

Prince Henry was born to nobility and with it come certain obligations. Guess now?

Yeah let's not discuss Prince Albert

Oh, NAT! I know who Nat is.
I like Laurie-the book Laurie, and i wasn't actually talking about Archie Campbell, but he works too :)

An Old Fashioned Girl said...

Oh come on Prince Albert is too a book character, THe book the movie was based after was fiction. Albert and Victoria weren't like that, it's all speculation.

Kstie couldn't remember who Henry was??? *faint* he's only one of the most annoying guys ever, why she likes him???

Maybe you should just turn your blog into a board Katie. With 46 comments and counting, this is more than some topics.

WOW Dad you changed your status from a lurker!

Anonymous said...

ooh! Good idea! We should just make our own personal message board :) LOL.

Kristi said...

Rebecca,
I like David's hair, AND his name, too, for that matter. Take heart, girls! :-)
I could go on and on about how God doesn't disappoint... But I guess if anyone would like to hear about it, you can just email me and ask! Otherwise, this could get pretty long.

Katie said...

I forgot about that movie. I never really liked Prince Henry's character anyway.....

If you girls want your own personal message board, I can set up one for you. But you'd better ask your parents because some of you would be entirely too often...

An Old Fashioned Girl said...

Katie's right, Erica and I might end up living on it:-)))) But it's a good idea.

We never talked about Jack!!! "Santa Fe are you there...." oops I forgot Erica doesn't like that song.

Lydia

P.S. Dare I be the 50 person to comment..

Erica said...

Umm...I totally would not have any time to spend on a message board with no point. ;)

I was thinking about that, Lyds. What about Spot Conlin? He's like my hero!!!

Say what you will, Becca.

Rebecca said...

OK. HERE GOES!!!

JACK!!!! I can not believe you girls. I wouldn't marry him if he came gift-wrapped.

ditto Spot Collins.

I just remembered how young you girls are. So, I'll forgive you....

Rebecca said...

Kats I think we need a message board. when you have time???

Lady Dvora said...

DItto Reba on Spot and Jack, I KNOW they don't count as great literaty characters.

Anonymous said...

I vote yes on the message board: But it has to have some focus...not that I'm not enjoying this...:)
And plus, we need Jak to keep us in line :)
"GIRLS!!!"

Lady Dvora said...

SO we've voted and Jak and Lack are offically moderators??

Katie said...

Jack and Spot do NOT count!!!!!!!!

They aren't literary characters. They are fictional characters in a movie not a book. So they don't count, come on!

I think if I set the board up I would be the administrator not the moderator.

Erica said...

Yeesh, didn't mean to offend the old ladies.

I wouldn't marry either of them, really.

Back to our topic... What about Jack, the OTHER Jack Derwood, he's in a book.

Anonymous said...

If Katie is old, David is at death's door.

Jack Derwood is in a totally different catagory than Mr. Thornton...he's more like a brother. I like him :)

Katie said...

If Katie's old David's at death's door!!!! O.k. let's not go to the extreme ladies!! We do want Dave to stick around and talk with us don't we?

Jack Derwood is far to young to be in this conversation.

Sorry! And yes, we definitely want David's oppinion.
